ABSENCES:
· Should a student be absent he will be allowed
one extra day to turn in the assignment. When in class, as we review the homework
(that was missed) he is to get the work down…but he may NOT turn in the homework until the following day. In these situations, since the students gets the benefit of reviewing the homework before turning it in,
I expect it done FULLY, all questions included with the problems…ALL WORK SHOWN.
A bunch of answers are rather meaningless.
· NOTE: I will not accept the work the day he
returns [UNLESS PRESENTED AT THE START OF THE CLASS ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE’S WORK] at the end of the class: this would
mean that the student wasn’t paying attention to the lesson so much as he was busy completing his homework during class
time.
· All absent work must be handed in before a
test (no exceptions)
· Missed tests must be made up the
day the student returns to class: NO EXCEPTIONS.
GRADING:
For each quarter - Tests&Quizzes = 70%
- Homework = 20%
- Preparation/Participation/Conduct = 10%
* Semester Grades are weighted as follows:
1st Semester = 40% of final year end grade (Note: Quarter 1, Quarter 2 plus a CUMULATIVE midterm exam comprise the first
semester grade)
2nd Semester = 40%, Final Exam = 20%
·
Quarter Grades are based on a point system: The grades each semester will be calculated as 70% tests and quizzes,
20% homework, and 10% class participation and exemplary behavior.
Homework will be collected daily (for the most part) and must be submitted on
a fresh, presentable piece of paper (or handout sheet if one is given) or NO credit will be given for the assignment.
I will mark who turns in their assignments but will not always return them as this is time consuming. Rather, I will
go over the problems the following day in class. It is the student's responsibility to follow along and copy the problem over. This provides reinforcement. Homework is worth 5
points each.
Tests
tend to be administered, on AVERAGE, once a week or week and a half (I prefer many tests as opposed to fewer tests and
more quizzes.
QUIZZES DO NOT HAVE TO BE ANNOUNCED IN ADVANCE! Be prepared and attentive – sometimes I will announce at the start of the class that there will be
a quiz by the end of the period…it is to the student’s advantage to pay CLOSE ATTENTION.
EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS: There are times throughout the school year when I feel the students could use an extra credit assignment
in order to have a chance to improve their grades and show me, by their effort, that they CARE about
their academic standing. If I assign an extra credit assignment to your son,
understand that it is ENTIRELY OPTIONAL, but if pursued diligently, can raise a student’s average by several points
in the quarter. If your son should pass up the opportunities offered him, there
are none to be offered at the end of the year!
